Two Golden Men and Emerging Diseases – organized by Sage Innovation and l’Université de Sherbrooke
Mr. Patrick Lagacé will receive Dr. Alex Carignan, microbiologist-infectiologist and professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sherbrooke to discuss issues related to emerging infections.
Climate change and natural habitats destruction have major consequences both in terms of biodiversity and the health of populations. Thus, conditions have been conducive to the emergence of many diseases such as COVID-19, Lyme disease, West Nile virus and different types of influenza virus.
It is therefore crucial to better understand ecosystems to prevent the emergence of new infectious diseases, especially those with pandemic potential, as well as to better understand the evolution of infectious diseases already affecting human populations.
To reach this goal, high-level academic research in collaboration with the life sciences industry is essential and directly depends on our research autonomy.
During this session, which will be attended by guest researchers, a patient partner and a personality from the industry, the following themes will be discussed: the sovereignty of research, academic/industrial partnerships for research, the emergence of new diseases infections and the resulting consequences.
