Christian Macher

Country President and Oncology GM, Canada - Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc.

Christian Macher is an international leader with 20 years of marketing experience at strategic and operational levels paired with general management experience in various local, regional and global roles. He has driven high double-digit growth of launch and mature pharmaceutical products across the globe at top companies such as AstraZeneca and Procter & Gamble.

Christian spent thirteen years at P&G at various levels and in multiple markets across the organization, followed by nine years at AstraZeneca where he was Country President in Taiwan for four years followed by an assignment in Cambridge, UK as the Global Head of Faslodex and Breast Cancer strategy. He has worked across many key therapeutic areas such as CNS, CV, Diabetes, Respiratory and Musculoskeletal, and Oncology. His leadership strengths are in designing, engaging and energizing teams and organizations.

Christian plays an active role in policy and government relations. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC) and a member of IMC CEO Steering Council (CSC) During his time in Taiwan he served as Co-Chair of the industry association board (IRPMA Taiwan), and Co-Chair of the Pharmaceutical Working Group of the European Chamber of Commerce and the British Chamber of Commerce Taiwan. Key accomplishments include the reshaping of pricing and reimbursement for innovative drugs, updating the industry code of conduct and collaborative dialogues on the evolution of the Taiwanese healthcare system.

Originally, from Germany, Christian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Technical University Munich, Germany, a Master’s degree in Chemistry (Dipl. Chem. ETH) at ETH Zurich, Switzerland and a Dr. sc. nat. (PhD) in Organic Chemistry at the same University. Christian is fluent in German and English and also speaks French and Spanish.
