Benoit Waeckel

Product Owner Proxy - Mechanical Designer at Zimmer Biomet, Animateur & Formateur de la Fresque du Climat, Vice-Président Coop Sens Climat

Arrived in Montreal in 2017 after studying engineering in France to pursue a master’s degree in biomedical engineering at Polytechnique, Benoît quickly became involved in the local community to address the urgent issue of climate change.

In 2019, he joined Zimmer Biomet as an intern and now works as a mechanical designer on the iASSIST Knee project. Since 2022, he has also been leading environmental initiatives at the company.

In parallel, he is a member of the “Climate Fresk” association. This organization has developed a tool to simplify the reports of the IPCC in order to provide everyone with the keys to take action.

Enthused by this tool, which has now helped to raise awareness among more than a million people worldwide, Benoit trained in late 2020 to become one of the first facilitators in Quebec and became the first trainer in North America by the end of 2021.
Since 2021, he has raised awareness among more than 500 people and trained more than 200 facilitators of the Fresque du Climat in Quebec.

Today, Benoit is thinking about how to combine his two areas of interest: health and environment. His ambition? To mobilize talent within his professional network to come up with solutions to decarbonize our healthcare system.
